ForumWise Arcade
The Arcade is an optional ForumWise feature that can be used to provide games to your members. Each forum admin may pick from our selection of over 250 games to add to their Arcade, grouped into custom categories. Also, members can be required to have a certain number of posts before getting access to the games. (Guests are not allowed to play the the Arcade games.)
Step 1: Activate your Arcade
To install your Arcade, open your admin panel and click on
Arcade -> Arcade Config
The first time you click this link, the Arcade system will be installed into your forum.
Step 2: Configure your Arcade
Click on Arcade -> Arcade Config. Here you can set some general settings of your Arcade.
Disable Games - Set this to Yes to disable your Arcade.
Enable Game Charge - This will enable charging members for playing games. (You must set individual game costs, and you must have the Cash feature enabled. )
Games Per Page (Arcade) - How many games to list on a page.
Games Per Page (Admin Panel) - Same as above but only applies to admin panel configuration pages.
Games Icon Image Size - Control size of game pictures by pixels, width and height.
Default Guest Text - A message displayed to Guests
Minimum Posts to Play - To help encourage participation in your forums you may set a minimum number of posts that a member must have to be able to play in the Arcade. (Admins are not subject to the post count limit.)
Add Arcade Links - If you have your Portal activated, you can set to Yes to add navigational links for the Arcade to your pages.
Step 3: Define your Game Categories
If you want you can define different categories of games, like Classics, Shoot 'em Up, Word Games, etc. (You can skip this step and add Games to the Default Game Category and re-organize later. The Default Game Category is used when you select "none" for the category. It's icon is a graphic that says "GAMES".)
Click on Arcade -> Categories. From this page you can click the Add button to create a new category.
You can Edit an existing Category.
Use the Arrow Buttons to re-order your Categories.
Use the Delete Button to remove a Category.
When you are Adding or Editing a Category, you may define a custom Icon for that category that you uploaded previously or define the Category Name and Description.
To set a Category Icon, use General Admin -> Upload Smilies to load category images. Find URL by viewing the image with your browser. Then copy the full URL, trim the string down until it has format like this...
/images/smilies/yourforum/icon_name.gif
Step 4: Add your Games
We have over 250 games to select from that can be added to your Arcade. Each game has a Simple Name that is used when you install, you will see these Simple Names in the list at the end of this post.
Simple Name - Enter game simple name from the game list at end of this post, for example asteroids
Real Name - You can make the public name anything you want, for example Asteroids Classic
Game Charge - If you have activated the Cash feature, you can also charge your members to play the game. This amount will be subtracted from the player's Cash when they visit the game from the arcade page. If they don't have enough they can't play.
Game Category - Pick a category for the Game. This can be a cateogory you created, or the default category labeled "none".
Game is Available - Set to Yes for the game to be activated.
Highscore Limit - If blank, all member's High Scores will be saved. Or you can type a number like 10 to save only the top 10 High Scores, for example.
Reverse Highscore Listing - If lower scores are better in a game, like golf, for example, use this to turn highscores into "lowscores".
Window Size - Leave blank for default size, or override with your own values.
Reset Highscores - Use this to clear highscore data from a game.
Instructions - You can add extra game notes here. This info shows on the game detail page.
Step 5: The Arcade Link
Click on Arcade -> View Arcade to try out your Arcade. This is the same URL that members will use to enter the Arcade.
Be sure to set Add Arcade Links to Yes in Arcade -> Arcade Config to add the Arcade Link to the navigation links. You must use the Portal mode to take advantage of this feature.
If you aren't using Portal mode, or, if you don't use the Add Arcade Links feature you will need to provide the Arcade link to your members by posting it in your forum, etc.
The Games
Please see following post for available games.
We do not have a feature to add all the games at once.
If you have any issues with specific games or other arcade issue, please make a post in the Arcade Support forum. _________________ Mark
